Project Overview

Xu Wei Art Museum and Qingteng Square

Xu Wei is a calligrapher of the Ming Dynasty, the founder of splash-ink Impeessionistic Painting, and the originator of the "Qingteng ".As the main venue for the "500th Anniversary of Xu Wei's Birth and the Opening Ceremony of Xu Wei's Hometown",Xu Wei Art Museum is also another new cultural symbol of Shaoxing.

With black tiles, the museum’s top looks like it has been splashed with ink.

The overall architectural design of the art museum draws on the essence of Qingteng Bookstore, and integrates the ancient city’s thoughts on the iconic public cultural buildings, conveying a modern art in a historical context.

As the urban smart Lighting Solution Provider, ROLEDS is very honored to cooperate with the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University Co., Ltd.  to complete this extraordinary project. The continuous exploration of architectural art and Optical aesthetics aesthetics depicts the life I love , and blooms the profoundness of Chinese culture.

Design Concept

Xu Wei Art Museum is located in the former residence of Xu Wei. It is located in the north of Qingteng Bookstore and in the middle of Houguan Lane, covering an area of more than 2,500 square meters and a construction area of more than 9,000 square meters. The shape of the art museum is like a freehand painting standing on the ground. The combination of metal, glass and stone shows the integration of history and modernity,  embodying the ultimate in purity, lightness, transparency and sophistication

The lighting design well expounds the architectural implication, deeply analyzes the structure of the art museum and the surrounding environment, and the ultimate expression of light completes the three-dimensional reshaping of the building.

Through the rendering of light, the design shapes the overall freehand space, giving more architectural spirit and characteristics to bloom, and conveying a tranquil and harmonious traditional beauty without losing modernity in the specific historical context of Shaoxing.　　

The black and white of ink, the charm of heaven and earth, the intention of mountains and rivers, light and shadow flow in a pure, fresh and delicate atmosphere.

Smart Lighting Solution

Using a large area of glass curtain wall and special granite stone wall, the interior light echoes the exterior light,  which allow the space to form tension in the time scene and present  a bold and freehand landscape painting.

The light extends from the ground, like Xu Wei splashing ink, showing the architectural art form in a three-dimensional and appropriate way.

The combination of lighting and architecture presents an elegance and leisurely harmony with nature.

From the viewing point of view of the surrounding residents, the design combines function and beauty, strictly controlling the color temperature and anti-glare performance, creating natural and soft lighting embellishments, and creating a comfortable and artistic leisure place.
