Located at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center, the Qingdao International Conference Center holds a prestigious history as the venue for the sailing events during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The architecture embodies the grace of a seagull in flight, with its columns resembling sails set out to sea. A clear central axis combines traditional elements with the elegance and dynamism of billowing sails, symbolizing openness to diverse perspectives and cooperation.
The lighting design, guided by the theme Light of a Great Nation, Soaring to New Heights, focuses on enhancing the main entrance, façade sails, and top eaves of the building.
After thoroughly understanding the lighting designer’s plans and requirements, ROLEDS conducts simulated tests with preliminary lighting simulation and sketch designs to deliver the most suitable lighting solutions.
Soft, warm tones were chosen to create a dignified and atmospheric coastal palace. At the main entrance, ground-mounted MatriX floodlights cast upward, illuminating the welcoming glow and ensuring optimal lighting effects and aesthetic appeal. Atop the main venue, resembling unfurled wings, MatriX wall washers were strategically placed to illuminate the structure. At night, as these lights illuminate, they create beams resembling shimmering feathers, adding a dynamic and spirited touch to the nighttime skyline.
